NEWS - 5 JULY 2018

Next week’s value is Creativity “In all the work you are doing, work the best you can.  Work as if you were working for the Lord, not men.” Colossians 3:23

Dear parents/carers

Counting down.... 11 school days to go until the end of term!   The majority of children have already met their new class teachers. Children in Year 5 will meet their teacher, Mrs Newton, on Monday 9th July 2018. Mrs Newton is looking forward to getting to know them better.  We welcome Miss Emma Hampshire to Year 4.

This week saw the last of the after school clubs. Be ready to look out for information about our new autumn term clubs; you can sign up early in September.

Year 3 went to Sea City in Southampton - a fitting visit to the historic museum to reinforce what they learned in their Titanic topic work. Everyone had a good day and, as always, Mr Bannister was impressed with children’s behaviour.

School Council members delivered our assembly on Monday.  Next year will see some new members elected so do encourage your child to apply, if they have an interest in making a difference!  More details below.

The Open the Book team from our local group of churches gave their final assembly of the year on Tuesday. We should like to thank the team for entertaining and teaching us about bible stories throughout the year and wish them all a restful and well deserved break.

Year 6 children have been visiting senior schools recently to prepare themselves for the transition and we hosted the last of our SMART clubs for new Reception class children and parents earlier this week. Our thanks to Miss Griffiths for her hard work and to the PTA for supporting - explaining to new parents how the PTA works and showing some items of uniform.

On Wednesday, children in Upper Key Stage 2 visited the Cathedral for the ‘God and the Big Bang’ experience.  Children participated in workshops led by three highly esteemed research scientists, one of whom is a science magician and a member of the Inner Magic Circle.  Children were encouraged to consider and question the relationship between faith and evolution.  The children asked thought provoking questions and gave mature and reflective responses.  The behaviour was exemplary and they made the accompanying adults very proud.  Thank you to Reverend Sarah and the church for organising and funding this event.

KS2 Confederation sports day took place today at Woolmer Hill, more news on this next week.

Something to look forward week, on Monday, the fantastic, the fabulous, the incredible, the magnificent, the awesome ‘Three Peaks’ team will be in school, in the morning, when they will deliver an assembly to children, telling them all about their adventures whilst climbing the three highest mountains in the UK.

Have a great weekend.

Janis Radcliffe

You should all have received a letter by now informing you that from September if you have not selected your meal choice and it is left blank you will need to provide a packed lunch for your child as we are no longer able to overwrite the system and enter for you.

Please make every effort weekly or half termly to select your choices.  KS2 will only be able to make a selection if the account is in credit.  If you are not in credit you will need to provide a packed lunch.  If you have any queries please do contact the office.

If you have a child in Y6 with a St Mary’s Savings account please ask them to come to the office before Friday 13th July to withdraw any savings and close their accounts.

Please sign up to help at the Summer Production, the sign-up sheets are on the Mullard Building. You don’t miss any of the production by volunteering to help and all help is greatly appreciated! Please also remember to bring a bottle for the Barrow of Booze on Friday 6th July. Many thanks, the PTA.  There will also be a second hand book stall so if you have any books you would like to donate please bring them along.

We have a large tub of lost property and cake boxes/plates – please check before the end of term as unclaimed items will be donated to charity over the summer holidays.

From September the cost of breakfast club will be £3.50 per child.  This increase is due to increased numbers of pupils attending and will cover the cost of an additional member of staff to run the club.

If your child has medicines in school please ensure they are collected before the end of term as we are unable to keep them during the school holidays.

If your child needs medicine in school please ensure that they are in school during the first week of term in September.

There are a few vacancies for piano lessons in school on a Monday starting in the autumn term. Individual lessons are usually 20 minutes. For more information and to apply online visit the website

All children need to have their costumes in a named bag on Monday 9th July for dress rehearsals.  The costumes will then stay in school all week and will go home with children on Thursday.
