Diocese of Guildford

Education in schools, colleges and universities is absolutely central to the work of the Diocese.  What could be more important than to serve upwards of 22,000 children and young people daily in our 86 Church of England schools?  Through contact with diocesan chaplains in colleges and universities many thousands of young people are welcomed and influenced.

Our schools are open to all and welcome local children regardless of their families’ faith or background.  Our dedicated headteachers, staff teams and governors strive for high quality teaching rooted in an approach to learning and living derived from the Christian understanding of God’s love.

Christian values are central to the life and work of our schools which embrace creative approaches to worship, prayer and service. Links with local parishes are strong and there is a natural bond of friendship between church and school.

Relationship and Sex Education

The DfE have opened their consultation into the teaching of Relationships and Sex Education. This consultation opened on 19th December and closes on 12th February, so we only have a month left to respond. Please do take the time to respond, or pass on to your PHSE lead to look at the proposals and make a response. Parents and pupils are also invited to respond, so you may wish to include this in a newsletter to parents and in secondary schools involve your pupils. Those making the decisions about the future content of RSE need to hear from schools if the new legislation and guidance is to be fit for purpose.
