NEWS - 9 JUNE 2017

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back – I hope you all had a lovely half term.

Although this has been a short week for children, Monday was an INSET day and staff were involved in school activities, including meetings with a Governance Review Team to reflect the requirements of our Post Ofsted Improvement Plan. There was also a meeting of the Governing Body to determine St Mary’s new budget and consider the forecast for the next couple of years. Whilst finances are improving slowly, it is worth mentioning that, in common with many other schools, St Mary’s still has to work within extremely tight financial constraints. This means that we are always very grateful for your contributions and for the hard work of the PTA and those who support them by attending functions, such as the recent Chiddfest event, to raise additional funds for the school.

This weekend we look forward to seeing you again; this time at the Village Fete, when our Year 4 children will again be dancing around the maypole! Children have been practising furiously and they are looking forward to showing their skills!

On Tuesday, we held a minutes’ silence to mark the London terror attack and we have talked to children about the importance of vigilance but also about remaining calm and remembering that most of the time we are safe and these incidents are not the norm. We have encouraged children to talk to adults if they have any questions or concerns.

On Wednesday after school, teachers attended a staff meeting when they received feedback from a colleague who has attended a couple of recent conferences about Special Educational Needs. This is one of the ways in which St Mary’s obtains best value for money, by using its own, internal resources and breadth of expertise, thus saving money and providing opportunities for colleagues’ professional development.

On Thursday morning we held our annual Holy Communion Service when children behaved impeccably, showing great respect and a sense of occasion. They also sang beautifully! Well done, children and thank you to Reverend Sarah, Mr Crocker and colleagues who helped to organise this service.

Have a lovely weekend!

Yours sincerely

Janis Radcliffe

Mufti Day – bring in a bottle and sweets for Production

Please remember to bring your raffle tickets in for the Fete by tomorrow at the latest (including unsold ones).

A kind reminder for you to pay your contributions to the School Fund for the Summer Term.  The recommended donation is £25 per term and these can be paid through Tucasi the online payments system or if you prefer by termly direct debit to Lloyds School Fund, Sort Code: 30 93 74 Account Number: 64598268.  These donations provide a vital source of income to the school and enable us to purchase additional extras for the classrooms.

A kind reminder to please ensure all payments for school dinners are up to date for this term.  Any outstanding payments will result in your child being unable to have a school dinner until they have been settled in full.

Please note there will be no KickStart Football Club on Tuesday 13th June.  An extra session will be added at the end to compensate for this.

To help raise funds for the PTA children can come dressed in Mufti on Friday 7th July in return for a donation of a bottle for the raffle and a sealed bag of sweets.

Support your team:

To add to the excitement, the children will be competing for their houses!  Everyone will need a coloured t-shirt representative of their house colour – RED for Ruby House, BLUE for Sapphire House, YELLOW for Amber House and GREEN for Emerald House.  If you are not sure which house your child is in please check with their teacher.

Don’t forget:

As well as a coloured t-shirt, shorts and suitable outdoor PE footwear are essential. Please make sure your child has sun protection and a water bottle if the weather is good and perhaps a coat if it is not!

Spectators will be very welcome to sit in the designated areas, but remember to keep a safe distance away from the marked track!  The public playground will be out of bounds for school children during the day.  The Pavilion Coffee Bar will be open for teas, coffees and delicious cakes - please pop in for a warm welcome!

For the whole school picnic the children will be taken to meet their parents/friends or will sit with school staff to eat.  Children who normally have a packed lunch should bring it into school in the morning as usual.  Children who normally have a school meal will be provided with their pre-selected packed lunch.  Parents can, of course, bring extra snacks for their children.  After eating, all the children will return to the school playground for supervised lunch play followed by registration before the afternoon activities commence.  Please note that the picnic will be cancelled if it rains!

Following the presentation of the trophy to the winning house at the end of the afternoon children will return to their classrooms for normal collection.

Rounders Match

After the success of last year’s ‘children v parents Rounders match’, we are inviting Rounders and Cricket club parents to join us at 3pm. The parents won last year – so the children are training hard!
