Welcome to Year 6
with Miss Hampshire, Mrs Creswell and Mrs Fozard
Our topic focus for the Autumn term was World War 1. We enjoyed learning lots about this period of time through many different curriculum areas; please see the Autumn Term Plan Overview below for more information.
We really enjoyed our visit to the Imperial War Museum in London and the Surrey History Centre in Woking where we developed our understanding of this topic even further. Year 6 also performed our class assembly - Lenny's War- to parents, carers and the rest of the school.
We were lucky enough to have had a loan box from the Houses of Parliament to look at and use during the second half of the Autumn Term, which was perfectly timed with the General Election. We wrote our own persuasive arguments and held debates. We also created our own political parties and held our own election campaign in school.
This term, Year 6 are learning all about the Victorians. We particularly enjoyed visiting the Victorian schoolroom at Guildford Museum to experience just what it was like to be a Victorian child (we all agreed that being a child in 2020 is much better!) We have also been finding out about the Industrial Revolution and how this has impacted our lives today. During art sessions, we have enjoyed creating our own block print designs based around the works of William Morris.
Please see Spring Term Plan Overview below for further information.
We have many exciting adventures ahead of us during the Summer Term. Year 6 are looking forward to our residential to High Ashurst, as well as learning survival skills during our Survival Challenge topic. We are especially looking forward to putting on our Leavers' Production (more information to follow!)
