Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

Thank you for visiting our Y3 class page!

AUTUMN TERM

This Autumn term we will be exploring the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age periods. We will look at what made these periods in history special exploring the discoveries and inventions. We will look at what cave men were really like and discover what it would have been like to live in those times. We will examine the types of homes people used to live in, what they ate and how they farmed. We will also learn why historical artefacts are important and how we can use them to help us discover information about the past.

SPRING TERM

This term we will discover the true and tragic story of the Titanic and its debut journey to America.  We will have a special visitor – Ann from Godalming Museum who will tell us about a significant local person and a key figure in a Titanic story, Jack Phillips. We will visit the Seacity Museum on 12th March and find out about how the Titanic was built, who was onboard and, of course, why it sank! Our History work will focus on why the building of the Titanic was such a momentous occasion and who was involved in its creation. We will find out all about the design of the Titanic, inside and out, as well as discover who the passengers were. Finally, we will find out why the Titanic sank and how that fateful night could have been different.

SUMMER TERM

We will learn about rainforests around the world. We will find out what they are, where they are, what they contain and who lives there (including plants, animals and indigenous peoples). Inspired by all the amazing colours as well as by John Dyer’s ‘Spirit of the rainforest’ project we will create Rainforest pictures and learn to make paper molas. Along the way the children will develop their skills by writing reports, creating their own rainforests, and becoming David Attenborough!
