Year 1 have enjoyed many activities this term and have enjoyed finding about the world now and in the past. Here are some of the highlights. They began by visiting Arundel Castle. They loved dressing up as knights, lords and ladies and were equally fascinated by how people protected themselves in castles in the past. Following their visit, they enjoyed making their own shields and castles. Their shield include a symbol to represent a value of their families, such as a lion for strength.
Amongst these more obvious highlights, the children have enjoyed improving their writing and maths. Linked to the Christmas theme and the music curriculum, the children enjoyed using clips from The Nutcracker suite to inspire their writing. They learnt to analyse the dancers’ movements which helped to extend their vocabulary in their description of the ‘Mouse Battle’.
