School Curriculum

Children are taught in mixed ability classes based on the child’s age. A variety of teaching styles are used ranging through whole class, group or individual teaching.
We encourage a purposeful working atmosphere, where children are valued as individuals and are encouraged through praise and support. Children tackle new concepts and skills through a hands-on approach with an emphasis on independent learning. ClassroomAppropriate challenge, alongside reinforcement and consolidation is important. The classteacher takes time to observe children working in order to assess progress and provide appropriate intervention.

The core and foundation subjects of the National Curriculum, plus Religious Education and Personal, Social and Health Education form the basis of the school’s curriculum. Language teaching (French) is provided for every class on a weekly basis. The whole curriculum is broad and varied and includes a range of policies and practices, which promote pupils’ personal, social, aesthetic and intellectual development. Many areas of the curriculum are enhanced and supported by visits and visitors as well as themed weeks - for example - Book Week, Community week, Arts week, Dance workshops and Residential visits in Years 4, 5 and 6.
