Meet The Governors

Mrs Caroline Doherty
Chairman (Foundation)

I have been a Governor at St Marys since 2009 and am the current Chair. I very much see our role as a critical friend to the school, overseeing the strategy set by the Headteacher and senior leadership team, positively challenging when necessary and helping to shape policy. My son was part of the Reception intake in 2007 and I have seen the school through the transition to academy status under the umbrella of the Good Shepherd Trust and continue to work with the fellow governors, Headteacher and staff to ensure the ongoing improvement and success of our school. I feel we are so very fortunate as a community to have such a good school in our village and am proud to be part of an establishment that provides such a happy and productive learning environment. I am also Chair of the Chiddingfold Village Nursery Committee and up until just recently was an elected member of the Village Parish Council. I am a qualified HR professional and work part time using the skills I use in my business life to support the school whenever I can.

Rev Sarah Brough

Ex Officio/Foundation Governor (PSCHE/RE link)

Rector of St. Mary’s Church since 2003, parent of a child in the 2011 Reception class intake.  I have valued my association with St. Mary’s school over the years and cherish the strong links that have been established between the school and the parish church.  I enjoy visiting the school, whether to lead assemblies, to speak to classes, or in my capacity as RE and Collective Worship link governor. I am always pleased to welcome the school to St. Mary’s church, whether for class visits to learn more about what happens in church or for whole school services. It is a joy to watch the children learning and growing during their time at St. Mary’s and I am encouraged that the leadership of the school takes the spiritual and moral development of each child seriously. As an unofficial chaplain to the school by virtue of my role, I am available to meet with staff and parents should the need arise.

  Vacant position from September 2018

Mrs Janis Radcliffe

Headteacher (ex officio)

I believe strongly that all communities should have good schools and hope that my contribution as Headteacher and School Governor will help the school to realize its ambition to become one of the best primary schools in Surrey.

I have three adult children of my own and am passionate about education. I am committed to supporting St Mary’s Primary School to enable it to go from strength to strength to achieve the reputation it deserves in the community. The challenges are to work with the staff, governors and senior leaders to ensure that every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential, whatever their background, whatever their ability.

In my professional career I have worked in a variety of schools including maintained and independent, primary and secondary schools. I have been a Headteacher and Governor since 2005 and previously had 16 years’ experience as a class teacher, science specialist, subject leader, departmental manager and Deputy Head. Prior to this I had a very enjoyable career in the National Health Service in the field of Medical Laboratory Sciences.

It is a privilege to have the opportunity to work with parents, pupils, governors and colleagues to ensure that St Mary’s is viewed with a sense of pride, by all who are associated with the school.

Miss Ali Howells

Teacher Governors

Sheila Buckley - I have lived in the village and worked in the school since 2001. I was a class teacher for 11 years as well as being the SENDCo and part of the Senior Leadership Team for the last five years.  I obtained my Post Graduate Certificate in Special Educational Needs in 2012.  I am also Key Stage Two Leader and Co-ordinator of Assessment and Data. I have 3 children, 2 now at secondary school and 1 still attending St. Mary’s. I feel strongly about inclusive education, providing all children with the opportunities, skills and strategies to achieve their full potential irrespective of their starting points.  I thoroughly enjoy working as part of the teaching team and governing body to ensure that all children in our care get the very best education they deserve.

Originally from Swansea, I moved to Surrey in 2011 to teach Year 6 at St Mary’s and I haven’t looked back since!  During my time at the school I have also taught in Year 3, and have recently moved to KS1 where I am currently the Year 2 teacher.  With a passion for teaching English, in 2013 I became Literacy Subject Leader, and in this role I have strived to instil a love of reading; to promote high standards of presentation and to drive improvements in writing and spelling at St Mary’s to ensure the best outcomes for all pupils.  A staff governor since January 2017, I am proud to be part of such a dedicated, supportive and collaborative team of staff and governors, and love working with such delightful children.
