NEWS - 2 NOVEMBER 2017

Next week’s value is Hope

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. Jeremiah 29:11

Dear Parents and Carers

Children have made a good return to school after their half term break and teachers have heard some lively reports of the events of the holidays!

This week we have welcomed a number of prospective parents who, when visiting classrooms, have commented on how impressed they are with our children’s learning and behaviour, and especially with their ability to explain the details of their learning and outline their personal targets for improvement.

Children had their first sing-song of the half term yesterday. KS1 sang along with Mrs Griffiths, when they practised the words to some of our more familiar songs and KS2 sang with Mr Crocker, who will be preparing them for our end of term carol service.

On Wednesday, during the first of our weekly staff meeting, teachers engaged in a joint assessment of the quality of work in pupils’ exercise books; they looked at continuity and progression across the school and assessed the quality of marking, feedback and pupils’ responses, which were deemed to be of a high standard.

A representative from ‘Music-works’ came into school on Thursday to help set up new equipment and show school leaders how to use the new sound equipment that has been purchased with funds raised by the PTA. We are very grateful to the PTA for these additional, exciting resources and look forward to putting them into use. We hope that the addition of microphones will enhance our performances, especially where children are required to talk to a large audience.

On Thursday I attended a ‘Headteacher’s Away Day’ at Waverley Abbey. The day included a focus on ancient, contemporary and personal wisdom alongside a rare opportunity for some reflection time!

I plan to take forward what I learned about reflecting and relaxing through to the weekend and I hope you have a relaxing weekend too!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Yours sincerely

Headteacher

What’s going on at school for Christmas:-

Christmas trees

Once again we will be selling Christmas trees.  Offering very competitive prices and beautiful non-drop Nordman firs, these are a real bargain and at the same time you are supporting a great cause because the PTA gets a portion of the sales.  Forms are being sent home in book bags this week and are attached to the bulletin so please look out for them or contact elizabeth@spritzmarketing.co.uk. Orders must be placed by the 23rd November so don’t delay and orders yours today!  Forms can be returned to the school office and payment must be included too.

Santa Dash – Saturday 2nd December at 2.30pm at St Mary’s

Come and join the Santa Dash – fun for all the family!

5K Santa Dash and 1K Elf Toddle

£12 for family tickets or £5 adult, £2.50 child

All proceeds will be donated to the PTA and go towards a defibrillator for the school.  Children and young people can sadly suffer from sudden cardiac arrest as well as the older population and medical experts believe that many children could be saved if a defibrillator is used within minutes.  St Mary’s will be fund raising until we reach our target of £1,200 for the defibrillator.

Secret Room

A favourite of the children at St Mary’s, we will be once again running the Secret Room, offering your children a chance to buy a surprise present for you, or anyone in your family.  Forms will be coming out toward the middle of November so look out for them!

Christmas Fair – 15th December

In the school hall from 2.30pm to 4pm.  Loads of festive fun for all the family - a chance to get some Christmas cheer and to support the school!
