NEWS - 28 SEPTEMBER 2017
Next week’s value is Serving
“But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” Chronicles 15:7
Dear Parents and Carers
Firstly, thank you to Reverend Sarah and all pupils, parents, colleagues and governors, who attended Sunday’s ‘Education Sunday’ Service in St Mary’s Church. Children who took part are to be commended for their confident speeches and performances. Participants enjoyed tea and juice with home-made cakes, in the sunshine afterwards.
This week has been ‘All About Me’ week and, as expected, children have shown a great deal of interest in themselves! That said, the themed week was also an opportunity for pupils to think of others, starting with an assembly on the subject of autism on Monday and including some NCPCC presentation workshops on Wednesday. Some children will be bringing home letters to explain a little bit more about their learning in the NSPCC workshops, together with some guidance and ideas for continuing the learning at home.
Wednesday was also ‘National Fitness Day’ and Mrs Wright kept staff and children busy and active, encouraging them to think about their health and wellbeing. More about this from Mrs Wright - see below.
I will be out of school all day on Friday, when I will be attending the annual planning meeting for headteachers in the Haslemere Confederation. This is a group of schools that works together, sharing ideas to deliver best practice and making some cost savings through efficient purchasing.
No news to report on the home-front this week!
I hope you all have a lovely weekend!
Yours sincerely
Headteacher

DATA COLLECTION SHEETS
Your child will be bringing home a data collection sheet this week. It is vital that you check the information is correct, make any necessary amendments, sign and return to us on Monday 2nd October. We need this form signed and returned even if there are no changes to be made. Thank you in advance for your co-operation.
HARVEST FESTIVAL
There will be a Harvest Festival Church Service that all children will be attending on 4th October. We kindly ask children to bring in donations of non-perishable food on Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd of October and then a representative from each class will present them in during the service. Parents are welcome to attend the service at St Mary’s Church 10.00am.
NO PENS DAY
On Wednesday October 4th, St Mary’s will be taking part in ‘No Pens Day Wednesday’, a national speaking and listening event organised by the Communication Trust. It encourages schools to put down their pens and pick up their language by spending one day focusing on learning through speaking and listening. We are doing this because we know speaking and listening skills are extremely important for children’s development - both in education and more widely. This is a really exciting day that will encourage good classroom talk and will build on these essential skills in a fun and engaging way.
Y3 BUTSER TRIP
Just to remind you that the Y3 trip money is due this Friday 29th September.
SECONDARY SCHOOL APPLICATIONS
Just a reminder to Y6 parents that secondary school applications need to be in by Friday 20th October.
CENSUS DAY MENU
On Thursday 5th October the kitchen will be swapping the menu. Instead of having Organic Beef Lasagne (which will now be served on Tuesday 3rd October) they will be serving the following:
Organic Beef Burger & tomato sauce
Or Southern Style Veggie Burger (vegetarian option)
Served in a bun
With a side of Potato Salad, Sweetcorn Coleslaw & Baked Beans
Followed by
Oatflakes Shortbread & a glass of Organic Milk
If your child usually has a packed lunch and would like the dinner instead, please let the School Office know by Monday 2nd October 2017. The cost will be £2.15
NATIONAL FITNESS DAY
To celebrate National Fitness Day, Mrs Wright ran 20 minute activity sessions with Y1 – Y6. It is recommended that children have at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day so our children took part by doing burpees, squats, star jumps and partner exercises. They were fully energized and more focused on learning afterwards (as well as being hot and sweaty)! See photos attached.
ST MARY’S CHURCH
There will be an All-Age Harvest Festival service at St. Mary’s this Sunday, 10am. Harvest crafts and lots of fun! Please bring non-perishable items for the Godalming Food Bank.
