Next week’s value is Loyalty

“A person who tries to live right and be loyal finds life, success and honor.” Proverbs 21:21

Dear parents/carers

With Year 5 and 6 children back in school this week, we had hoped for a full calendar of activities and events, as planned. Unfortunately, for KS2 children, there was no option but to cancel their sports afternoon on Tuesday, due to poor weather and potentially hazardous ground conditions. Cancellation decisions are always difficult to call and just moments after the decision was announced the weather did seem to brighten up. I was reassured however, by Mrs Wright’s report that, raining or not, the ground conditions were indeed treacherous.

Rain aside, Sports Day wasn’t entirely a ‘wash-out’, because younger children had managed to complete their events in the morning. Everyone remained positive and patient and shared in the good humour of it all, including parents who relocated to the indoors, with their children, for ‘picnic’ lunches, albeit dressed in raincoats! Thank you for your patience and kind understanding.

Mrs Wright counted-up the points from the morning’s activities and deduced that ‘Emerald’ team were the winners. Well done, Emerald!  House Captains accepted the trophy on behalf of their team in an unscheduled afternoon assembly, attended by all pupils, who sang, at the top of their voices, to the tune of ‘We are the Champions’!

Our thanks to Mrs Wright for her brilliant organisational skills. Mrs Wright has also kindly promised to allow Key Stage 2 children an opportunity to complete their races during their regular PE sessions before the end of this term.

Year 4 left for Sayers’ Croft on Wednesday. Fingers crossed they have an exciting time, in spite of the vagaries of the British weather!

Year 6 pupils treated our audience to a wonderful class assembly on Thursday. Well done and thank you, Year 6 children, and thank you to Mrs Newton and colleagues for all their hard work in preparing the children to deliver an entertaining assembly. We look forward to our end of term production, when we will have the privilege of seeing the further development of speech and drama skills in our school.

We also wanted to share some of the Chiddfest numbers with you; 1,800 people attended the event and raised a phenomenal £18,000 which the local youth groups and the school will benefit from.  A huge thank you to all those involved in making it such an overwhelming success.

We are also looking forward to tomorrow (Friday) when we will be hosting the first of our ‘Careers Carousels’. Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to take part by sharing with children the intricacies of their professional lives so that children may learn about what different jobs entail and maybe consider them as possibilities for future paid careers.  Won’t it be nice when they start ‘paying their way’?

Have a wonderful weekend.

School Assembly - parents/carers welcome

Drama Clubs next Monday 24th June has been cancelled.

The PTA team would like to run the popular 'barrow of booze/bottles' raffle and ‘hamper’ raffle again this year at the summer production.  To support this event, we would be grateful if you could bring a bottle donation in to school on Friday 5th July.  For the Hamper there is a sign-up sheet in the Mullard building, donations also to be in school on 5th July.

The PTA are also looking for volunteers to help with setting up and taking down stalls and to serve on the Bar and BBQ on both days. There will be rota lists going up in the Mullard Building so please could people sign up for a time slot.  Thank you.

Our Sports day was a slightly wet affair this year; we were lucky to be able to run the KS2 field events and KS1 events. The children all did their best with their throwing, jumping and running. The multi sports activities run by Godalming College students were very exciting! We counted the scores from KS1 events and KS2 field events and held an assembly in the afternoon. The scores were very close: this year our winners were - EMERALD HOUSE!

Unfortunately, we had to cancel the KS2 track events, which was disappointing considering all the preparation that we have done since Easter. However, this was certainly the right decision as the rain certainly set in during the afternoon. During PE lessons over the next few weeks, Mrs Wright will run the races with the children in their year groups.

Rounders club would still like to challenge their parents to a match - we would like to rearrange the match for Tuesday 2nd July at 3pm.
