Dear parents/carers

Team work was our value of the week and it was great to see so many teams, associated with the school, working together harmoniously for the good of all.

The Senior Leadership Team had their work cut out, explaining the strengths and areas for development to our GST School Effectiveness Officer (all good practice for Ofsted!) whilst the Pupil Leadership Team have been efficiently carrying out their duties, including patrolling corridors, setting up assemblies, counting up house-points, helping younger pupils keep the peace and assessing the tidiness of cloakrooms! 

The teaching team have led excursions to the Rural Life Centre (Year 4) and Butser Ancient Farm (Year2).  A big thank you to teachers and helpers and a rousing well done to children for displaying their brilliant, child-like sense of awe and wonder, as well as for their excellent behaviour! 

The PTA has also been busy and had its first meeting of the school year this week. At the meeting, representatives looked back at what they had been able to fund for the school last year to enhance the learning and experiences of all the children. The school is, as ever, extremely grateful to PTA members who work so hard to bring additional resources to our school through their dedicated fundraising activities. 

Last year, the PTA paid for leavers’ pens and diaries for all year 6 pupils; it also paid for the shade sail and new picnic tables in the playground (fabulous foresight as it turned out with the early summer heat wave we had!).  PTA funds also paid for the Biz School event, a Defibrillator for the school, and they also covered the cost of putting interactive smart boards in, Y3 and Y4.  Finally the PTA funds paid for the newly installed adventure playgrounds that popped up over the summer holidays during 2017 and the new sound system in the hall.  Those last 2 items alone came in at a cost of nearly £9,000 so you can see how substantial the support that the school gets from the PTA is and how those mufti pound coins and drinks tombola bottles add up!!

Finally, Mr Whitbourn continues to lead the caretaking of our school. Without him, the school wouldn’t even open in the mornings! I feel sure that you and your children would like to wish Mr Whitbourn a very happy birthday for this week!

Due to an event on the field, there will be no Football clubs for boys and girls on Wednesday 10th October. The date will be made up with an extra week on Wednesday 5th December.

There will be no clubs week of 5th November due to parent’s evenings.


We kindly ask for any donations of non-perishable food to be bought into school from Monday 1st October for our Harvest Festival Service in St Mary’s Church next Thursday 4th October.  Donations can be left in classrooms.


Mental health awareness is extremely important in schools. The BBC Panorama programme on Monday night stated that nearly half a million children are either waiting for mental health treatment or receiving it. In our school we encourage mindfulness, resilience, emotional literacy, global citizenship and promote aspiration. We aim to give the children the tools to cope with stresses and trauma and to be able to recognise their own feelings and when they might need some support.

Mrs Wright is our Mental Health in Schools Leader and holds a Level Two accreditation in Children and Young People's Mental Health Awareness. Our Mental Health policy is available for you to read on our school website under Key information - school policies.

The Diocese of Guildford also provides resource for mental health and wellbeing.

If you have any concerns about your child's mental health, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Wright, your class teacher or a senior member of staff.

Last week, Year 1 enjoyed a very exciting trip to Arundel Castle.  Everyone was grateful that the rain held off for the most part and the howling wind certainly enhanced some spooky aspects of the castle!  The children learnt about the development of weapons and armour in the armoury.  They were amazed at how strong the knights must have been and they were entertained by tales of a giant knight who was reputed to have lived there.

They learnt how the Great Hall was used in medieval times and they were somewhat captivated by a real lion rug!  The children should be congratulated on meeting the challenge of climbing very steep spiral staircases.  At the top of the keep, they were able to walk along the battlements and imagine repelling the enemy as well as admire the marvellous view.  Many of the children were enthralled by the use of the dungeons but were relieved that they are not used anymore.

One of the highlights was dressing up as lords and ladies and even attempting to use a crossbow.  In addition, re-enacting part of the Battle of Hastings helped to consolidate their understanding of previous lessons.

As usual, for some, the picnic was a highlight and an extra bonus; this year was the early fall of conkers that littered the paths. The children showed much delight in collecting these!

Please find a letter regarding school trips in books bags today outlining the cost of trips and extras for this academic year.  All payments are to be made online via Scopay (please contact the school office for login codes in not already obtained). 


Please may we remind parent volunteers NOT to take photos of children when they are on school trips etc.  We have to adhere to privacy requests and comply to GDPR regulations.


We are always grateful for volunteers to assist in school with reading and trips etc.  If you are a volunteer please pop to the school office to sign the confidentiality agreement if you have not already done so.


We now have a date for our annual Sports District Cross Country event. All KS2 children are very welcome to attend - we had a record turn out last year! Please make every effort to come - it is a fun event for all children and very well organised.

Mrs Wright will be on site from 9:30am. You are required to stay with your children. You may stay as long as you like, or go home after your race.

The approximate timings for each race this year are: 
Year 4 girls - 10.00am
Year 4 boys - 10.10am
Year 3 girls - 10.20am
Year 3 boys - 10.30am
Year 5 girls - 10.40am
Year 5 boys - 10.50am
Year 6 girls - 11.00am
Year 6 boys - 11.10am
Followed by prize giving and team trophies. 

The race distances are as follows (approximates only): 
Years 3 & 4 - 700m
Years 5 & 6 - 1300m


Enter Cranleigh High Street. Just after the pelican crossing outside Sainsbury's Glebelands is signposted as a left turn into Rowland Road then continue round the corner and Glebelands School will be on your left.


Please ensure that you park outside the school grounds and the Christopher Robin Car Park.  Parking is available in Parsonage Road. IT GETS VERY BUSY SO ARRIVE EARLY.


Refreshments will be available on the day at a small price.  There is a small shop running during the event.
First Aid
Please ensure that you bring your own medication that your children may need e.g inhalers.  

Please also ensure that the children bring a top or fleece that they can wear when not competing as well as a supply of water.  


Thanks to all the extra volunteers the Pavilion Cafe will now be open Wednesday & Thursday after school until 4pm from next week. As it starts to get colder hot chocolate will also be back on the menu then! Finally we are still looking for some extra helpers to do the busy shift from 3-3.30 each week, if you can help please email
