Governors

All schools have a Governing Body. The Governing Body of St Mary's is the strategic planner for the school. It's made up of a group of school employees - Head, Deputy, Teaching Representative and Staff Admin representative - and 11 committed volunteers who bring a variety of skills and experiences to contribute to the continued development and direction for the school.

The key roles of the governing body at St Mary's is;

  • to lead the strategic direction of the school
  • to agree principles and targets for improvement
  • to manage and be responsible for the School Budget
  • to agree the policies and practice which provides the Head teacher with the necessary tools to carry out his/her responsibilities
Essentially the role is 'Eyes on, Hands Off'.

The Full governing body usually meets at least 4 times a year and we have 3 main committees - Finance & Premises, Curriculum & Pupil Welfare and Personnel who set priorities for working parties and make recommendations to the governing body. We also have a Marketing & Communications group to communicate further the activities of the school.

If anyone would like to know more about the role of Governors there is more information in the document below. If you are particularly interested in St Mary's please contact me by email via the school I'd be delighted to hear from you.
