NEWS - 22 NOVEMBER 2017

Next week’s value is

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.  1 Timothy 4:12

Dear Parents and Carers

Phew! Another busy week at St Mary’s!

On Monday, we welcomed Mrs Joanna Chudley (Teaching Assistant), to St Mary’s School. Mrs Chudley will join Mrs Bennett and her Reception Class children.  Mrs Chudley is looking forward to getting to know parents too.

Reception, Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 children received their nasal flu vaccines this week. Hopefully, these will protect them from any nasty viruses that might be doing the rounds this winter.

Children throughout the school have been enjoying some exciting, special, gymnastics sessions this week and last week Teachers have been attending as observers too; picking up some new ideas for their own gymnastics lessons in future.

It’s already beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! The caretaker has got the post-box down out of the loft and I believe I have seen a tree, some baubles and even some tinsel! I have also heard lots of tuneful singing emanating from classrooms, as children rehearse enthusiastically for nativity concerts and carol services.

Year 3 parents will understand that senior leaders’ priority, this week, has been maintaining the staffing of Year 3 in somewhat difficult circumstances. I should like to publicly thank Year 3 parents for their generosity of spirit. We have been overwhelmed with extent of empathic sentiment and been thrilled to receive some very kind offers of support. We are doing everything we can to keep staff changes to a minimum, whilst continuing to deliver the curriculum, using high calibre teachers. Fortunately, planning is already in place, thanks to Miss Howells’ meticulous preparation and filing system, last year. Thank you to all, for your continuing patience and kind understanding.

Thank you also to colleagues who have given additionally of their time to ensure as much consistency as possible.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Yours sincerely

Headteacher

CHARITIES

This term St Mary’s has raised an amazing amount of money for charities:-

  • Dahlicious Day raised £216.50 to provide seriously ill children with the expert care and support of a specialist Roald Dahl nurse
  • Where it Pink for Breast Cancer raised £178
  • Children in Need raised £209
  • £1 Challenge raised over £700 - A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the £1 Challenge this year.  We raised a record-breaking £700!  We have decided to donate £200 to Haslemere Food Bank to help with their Christmas charity work, and the remaining money will be spent on some new and exciting books for our St Mary's reading scheme.  We were so impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication of our children to this cause, not to mention the wide ranging and imaginative ways in which the children raised money.

BIZ SCHOOL

Y6 would like to inform you about an event being held on Thursday 30th November which they are running.

The event is called “Autumn Fair” and is taking place between 3.00pm and 4.00pm on 30th November.  Entry to the event is free.  The event will include a second-hand book and toy sale, autumn themed craft fair and a café.  At the café you can buy hot and cold drinks, cakes and cookies.  There will be lots of autumn themed craft stalls leading exciting activities such as cookie decorating, mask making and fondant animals.

To help us with this event we would like to ask you to donate any old children’s toys and/or books.  PLEASE HELP US BY DONATING THESE ITEMS.  Money raised will be split between our end of year treat and paying for the Biz School Programme for next year’s Y6 class.  To make a donation, please drop off items at the Y6 classroom.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Yours sincerely

Y6 students

PIED PIPER

KS1 have the opportunity to watch a performance by the Pied Piper Theatre Company on 1st December.  A kind reminder that we need your £2.50 contribution towards this by Friday 24th November, (sadly if we don’t receive enough contributions we will be unable to go ahead with this activity).

RUN FOREST RUN

On Sunday 19th November some parents, pupils and staff took part in Chiddingfold ‘s annual Run Forest Run event. It was very muddy and all participants did really well! The cake and bacon sandwiches at the finish were amazing!

PE REQUEST

Please ensure that children from Y1-Y6 have a pair of trainers in school for outdoor PE and running. Mrs Wright is seeing an increasing amount of children in school shoes!

SANTA DASH - Saturday 2nd December from 2.00pm at St Mary’s

Come and join the Santa Dash – fun for all the family with BBQ and refreshments afterwards.

We are looking for volunteer marshals to direct the Santas and Elves on the day – if you can spare some time please contact Lindsey Wright.
