NEWS - 7 SEPTEMBER 2017

Next week’s value is Community

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” Psalm 133:1

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back to St Mary’s and the autumn term!

All children, teachers and new colleagues have made a great start on their return to school this week! We welcome all of our new children and their teachers, including Miss Halliday, Miss Clark, Mrs Bennett, Mrs Dickson, Mrs Davies and Mr Hanson. We hope all newcomers will soon feel at home and enjoy being part of our very special St Mary’s School Community.

We have received some exciting news that Mrs Newton is expecting her first baby early next year. I know you will want to join me in congratulating her. Mrs Newton will be going off on her maternity leave after Christmas and a letter has been sent to Year 6 parents confirming the school’s plans to temporarily replace her with a high calibre, experienced professional who will ensure that Year 6 children continue to make good progress and are well prepared for their end-of-year tests.

Although children returned to school on Tuesday, the term began a day earlier for teaching staff who held a whole staff meeting on Monday, followed by a series of training sessions, including Safeguarding, First Aid, revision of Autistic Spectrum Disorders and training in the use of Electronic Registers. The latter will speed up the process of registration and gives us some options to add other functions to the system later in the year.

Teachers and administrators have been hard at work during the summer holidays. This year has been unusual in that we have had a lot of building work done to create an additional classroom. The results are spectacular and I should like to thank everyone involved, in particular our School Business Manager, Mrs Oqvist, who manages the school’s finances and premises and the teachers themselves, who have been moving furniture and locating resources. Thank you also, to Mr Whitbourn, Mrs Bedford and Mrs Swift for ensuring the school was clean and ready for business on Tuesday and to the remarkable Mrs Bishop who has given of her own time to get systems up and running! What a great team!

Have a lovely weekend!

Yours sincerely

SCHOOL PAYMENTS

We are aiming to be a “cashless” office from now on and urge you to make all your payments online for School Dinners, Trips etc.  To pay online; go on to the St Marys website, Parents, School Payments.  If you haven’t already registered for Scopay, please contact the school office to be given the code.

EMAILS/TEXTS

We were required to do a system update on our software that enables us to email/text parents.  If you have previously given us additional email addresses please can you ensure that the office has these addresses again as they did not migrate during the update.  At present we only have the primary contact details on our system.  Therefore if you would like your partner/spouse to receive emails/text messages please give the office your details.  Many thanks in advance for your co-operation.

SCHOOL DINNER MONEY

School dinner money needs to be paid in advance otherwise children will be unable to have a school meal.  Please pay either online (preferred) or by cheque made out to Surrey County Council, as below:-

First Half of term

Years 3 – 6           £74.25

Full term

Years R – 2          Free

Years 3 – 6           £164.25

Year 3 parents are no longer eligible for free school dinners, therefore please inform the office if your child will no longer be having a school dinner.

If your child has an allergy or any dietary requirements that we are not already aware of please inform the office as we will need a signed form from you.

SCHOOL FUND

Those parents who have set up direct debits to make their contributions to the School Fund have been written to asking them to change the direct debits to our new Lloyds School Fund Account.  The suggested contributions of £25.00 per term have had and will continue to have an enormous impact on the extra activities that we are able to offer, and additional resources and improvements to the school environment.

If you wish to set up direct debits the bank account details are:-

Lloyds School Fund Account

Sort Code: 30 93 74

Account Number: 65498268

COLLECTIONS

Please ensure that if your child has any long term collection arrangements you fill in the necessary form and give to the office.  Also a reminder that if anyone else is collecting your child we need a written consent form giving the details of who will collect. Also, we do need confirmation from parents, that older children are authorized to go home alone.

MEDICINES

If your child requires medicine to be kept in school (eg inhalers or epi-pens) please ensure they are in date and that you have completed a long term medicine form.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS

After school club information will be sent out on Friday 8th September and forms will need to be returned to the office by Tuesday 12th September.  Once we have processed the forms we will display the club lists on the windows in the Mullard building on the afternoon of Friday 15th September.  Please ensure that you complete the forms, especially the information about collections.  Club spaces are not guaranteed, they are allocated on a first come first served basis so please ensure you check the lists to ensure they have a place.

UNIFORM

Can all parents please ensure children are wearing the correct school uniform. A copy of St Mary’s School Uniform requirements can be obtained from the school office or website.

Children with long hair should have it tied back, without additional adornment other than clips or modestly-sized bows in appropriate colours (blue, brown etc).

Girls should wear jumpers or cardigans in the school’s blue (not navy) and preferably bearing the school logo.

Thank you for your cooperation.

DAHLICIOUS DAY

Next week sees the birthday of children’s author, Roald Dahl.  To celebrate his life and work, and to raise money for his marvellous children’s charity, we will be holding a Dahlicious Dress Up Day on Friday 15th September.  Children are invited to dress up as their favourite Roald Dahl character for a suggested £1 donation. We have seen some fantastic costumes when holding this event in previous years, so we look forward to seeing what wonderful characters descend on St Mary’s this year! Look out for further information about this event in the additional letter.

NATIONAL FITNESS DAY

National Fitness Day will be on Wednesday 27th September and we will be getting active together. Please see Mrs Wright if you would like to help!
